About Soroma

Soroma was founded in 2003 by Joy Ametra Jones in New York City. Joy named the company Soroma, from the Ashanti word nsoromma, “child of the stars,” which signifies sacred guidance, confidence, and reliability. Inspired by New York's diverse, fashion-aware women and those met during Joy's professional travels across the USA, Europe and Africa, she creates designer-quality clothing that fits many occasions and is recognized as special as well as classic. Her fashion experience includes studies at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), and work for several clothing and jewelry lines.

Soroma's clothing is made from trans-seasonal fabrics with unique textile prints. Distinctive design details include topstitching, well-placed inside and outside pockets, and fabric-lined sleeve cuffs that can be worn turned up or down.


The 2009 line, Garden Expressions, focuses exclusively on jackets, the most versatile part of many outfits. Each Soroma jacket is great for layering and can be worn with anything from jeans to sheaths!
